I have a good friend who just took an international trip into an area of potential conflict to attend a family event. We prayed beforehand that God would carry him on eagle’s wings in safety, and as it turned out, he needed it! The conflict erupted just as he was trying to leave, and it was only by taking some dangerous back roads that he was able to get to the airport in safety to complete his trip home.
Isaiah wrote about the eagles wings that God will use to carry us through times of danger, fear, or exhaustion.
28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 NKJV
Our life’s journey is filled with countless blessings each day. But even amongst all the blessings, there are times when we are pushed up against our limits of tolerance. We have had enough of a bad experience and do not want to take any more of it– just get us out of here!
God understands. Jesus certainly must have felt this way as he bore a wooden cross on his whip-striped back on His way up to Calvary. But God has promised to carry us through our crisis on eagle’s wings. Be it the unceasing cry of a baby or yelping of a puppy, a lingering depression, an overly critical boss, an angry line of customers, a lengthy illness, or a dangerous and unruly crowd we need to escape, God has promised to carry us through to the other side of our misery and trouble.
Many a day has ended with a note of crisis and unease in the air. With God’s grace, there will come a time when the new morning brings a sense of peace and hope for a better day. God will perform the miraculous on even the smallest details in our lives to bring comfort and relief to our souls.
God is the Creator of all things. We can debate how He did it or how long He took, but the fact remains, He did it. It wasn’t an accident, and you and I are not accidents. He loves us and wants to bring us joy each day of our lives, despite the circumstances we find ourselves in. He will always carry us through if we turn to Him and seek Him, and many times even when we do not, or profess not to believe in or follow Him. He is a God of abundant grace and mercy.
God understands us better than we understand ourselves. He treats us much better than we treat others. If someone spits in our face, we are strongly tempted to retaliate. But Jesus did not do so on His way to the cross, and He does not do it to you or I if we ignore or defy Him today. His love for and patience with us is amazing – He is the miraculous God!
Reflection
Where do you need the grace and mercy of God today? Now is a great time to turn to Him in prayer and ask for His miraculous intervention. It may not come at once, but it will come in His perfect timing and grace in a way that will comfort us.
Lord, thank You for carrying us on eagle’s wings through all the strife and difficulties that we are facing today. Help us to see Your loving hand working in our life. Thank You for being there, for loving us, and for seeing us through each and every crisis. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
